Self Analysis

Becoming fluent after years of stammering is like learning a sport. It requires hard work, courage and discipline. You must be prepared for a tough, no nonsense self analytical approach. Let’s analyze where we stand at the following levels:

LEVEL ONE : Speaking is totally automatic. No blocks, no avoidances, no tricks and no need to think about block again under any circumstances.

LEVEL TWO : Occasional short blocks in certain situations, but recognizes these as a breathing problem/lack of articulation. Able to quickly regain fluency using the method. Perhaps uses a trick to get out of a surprise block arising after a long period of automatic fluency. No avoidance of words or situations. Perceives oneself as someone who can control the stuttering rather than someone who stutters. Great belief that, can some day reach level one.

LEVEL THREE : There is sometimes avoidance of words and situations. Fluency tends to be much stronger than before joining the therapy. One who cannot always control stuttering. Long term evaluation will determine which will prevail. The method or tricks/avoidances.

LEVEL FOUR : Characterized by a strong fluency reached during the early stages of therapy, but returns to original level of blocking, trick using and avoidance. Occasional use of the method to achieve temporary fluency.

LEVEL FIVE : No fluency achieved during therapy or afterwards.
