Enjoy working on your speech. It’s FUN!!

Its great to be working on your speech and getting over mental blocks, but its equally important to enjoy the journey. Without the fun of getting to know the roads to take while reaching fluency, you would be more like a sailor slaving on his boat, but only celebrating the destination. Each success needs to be savored, enjoyed and noted in the mind - before starting on the next challenge. The more you do this, the more you love the path .. the more you love the path, the more your passion motivates you towards the next step.

Sometimes while working on your speech, taking risks, trying new situations to test your newfound, but delicate, confidence, you may encounter troubles, you may slip backwards or you may be tempted to let go completely.

But if you have the passion, the purpose and the need to go towards fluency, your love for what you are doing will help you overcome them all.

If you are clear about what you are trying to accomplish, and your heart supports this purpose, passion will join the brigade.

When passion, need and purpose point in the same direction, it means you fall in love with the process. You love what you are doing, and the process then supports you with successes, and chips at the former self away with failures. Eventually, you come out as a fluent speaker, and more often than not, a better orator than most of the fluent population.

And if you don’t enjoy what you are doing, even the speech exercises or the other tips that can help you to achieve fluency, it will be very difficult to relate to the purpose and the need with passion. And only with that would you work hard at it.

Another point to note: many people who are trying to overcome stuttering / speech disorders , etc. believe that they are doing this for themselves. It often helps to understand that by working on yourself, you are actually also contributing to the society. Winston Churchill thought so - or else his halting speech near the World War would not have been written on the pages of history.

I believe that everyone can find the passion to support the purpose and the need. Start from the heart, build an image of yourself speaking to the widest possible audience and hear the applause at the end of the speech.

But the first step is to simply decide to do it. Decide that your life is worth enough to you to get over stuttering. It might be tough, might not have a meaning right now.

Then, after a few weeks, take some time to reflect on what you are doing. You will see your heart, voice, mind - all of them pointing in the same direction. No conflict. It can be done.

And then, Just do it ..

Next time you feel a block or a hesitation coming, smile .. It is situations like these which will make the journey truly worthwhile.

PS: If you would like to know the experiences of people working towards fluency and enjoying the journey, I would recommend Entry to Fantasy: A Journey into Dreamland (ISBN-10: 1846852773). It’s a wonderful book, full of real life experiences, quick to read and highly motivating.
